We hope the children loved the special gift they received from Santa – there were lots of smiles, excitement, and festive cheer all around.
We would like to say a huge thank you to those who helped make this possible. We are incredibly grateful to Crynant Community Council, St Illtyd’s Masonic Lodge and The Lodge of Instruction for their kind and generous grants and donations. This support helped bring a little extra Christmas magic to our school, and we truly appreciate it. With these donations, the PTA has provided each child with an individual gift from Santa (we hope you all have fun painting your tealight holder over the Christmas holidays) and each class has also received £50 worth of presents including lots of fun games, fidget and sensory toys, puzzles and much more!
Thank you to everyone for supporting the PTA throughout this term. We look forward to lots more fun and fundraising in the New Year!
Merry Christmas!

Class 1 News
What a busy few weeks we have had in Class 1. We hope you all enjoyed our carol concert. We certainly enjoyed performing our songs and poems for you all in our festive jumpers.
We have been learning about why we celebrate Christmas. We retold the story of ‘The Nativity’ using character masks and sequencing the story. In Reception we were able to access our prior knowledge – remembering the names of the characters in the story.
We used our knowledge of printing using the outdoors as inspiration to create a printed Christmas tree greeting card. We collected leaves from outdoors, mixed our own green colour paint, covered the leaf in paint before pressing it firmly down onto paper to leave the print to create the ‘Christmas tree’. We left the print to dry before cutting around it. Some of us hand printed some robins with brown and red paint. Next, we folded a piece of card in half before learning how to use a paint brush to flick white paint onto the card to create snow. Then we cut a rectangular piece of felt to create the trunk of the tree. Finally, we wrote inside our cards. We hope you like them.
We practiced our fine motor skills by wrapping wool around our painted cone trees and threading pipe cleaner ‘tinsel’ in and out of the holes.
We listened to the story ‘Santa’s Secret’. We designed our own gadgets for Santa – we created a new sleigh for Santa with a rocket attached so he can quickly deliver all the presents.
We enjoyed the Pantomime – it was a little bit scary with the lightening, we liked the fairy and her beautiful sparkly dress, it was very funny when they said 6…7… Iris’ sister Meredith went up on the stage and she had to play a big drum. We loved Aladdin!
We were super excited to get to meet Santa today – it was magical! He had his bright red suit on. We asked him lots of questions like – Do you have a rocket boost? How do you make toys with the elf? We then got to have cookies and milk and hot chocolate with Santa. Thank you for visiting us Santa!
A very Happy Christmas from everyone in Class 1. We hope you have an enjoyable Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year. Thank you for all your support this year, we really appreciate it. See you in January 2026!

Class 2 News
We can’t believe the first term has already come to an end and what a fantastic term we have had in class 2!
No matter what classroom we have been in over the last few weeks, we have all continued to work hard. Our classroom has been repainted and is finally all coming together with lots of new furniture in there and many more to come in the new year.
We have all worked really hard in our Read Write Inc sessions to learn our sounds, words and story books
In maths we have learnt lots of place value skills from counting, representing objects and recognising numbers as words in year 1 and learning how to represent numbers up to 100 using lots of different methods including a place value chart and whole part model in year 2.
Our concept this term was about learning how to create a ‘healthy body healthy mind.’ We have worked hard to learn about healthy and unhealthy foods and what exercises we can do to keep our body and mind healthy. We have looked at how to respect people and how to create healthy relationships with our friends and families.
A huge da iawn to everyone for their effort in the Christmas concert. You all said your lines clearly and confidently and sang the songs beautifully!
We have had a fantastic last week this term in class 2, doing lots of Christmas activities and today we had a special visit from Santa. Great news we are all on the nice list too
A big thank you to all the parents and carers for your support this term. It means a lot, and we’re excited for the next term ahead!
We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
We look forward to welcoming you all back in 2026.
Mrs Williams, Mrs Morgan and Mrs Amos.
Class 3 News
A lovely Christmassy end to the term. We all enjoyed our Christmas dinner, delicious. We loved our Christmas buffet, party and meeting Santa. He answered all our questions and gave us all a special treat as we have been so good this year. We loved going to the Aladin Panto. We have all enjoyed making our Christmas Seasons calendars and Gingerbread men or Christmas tree cards.
Have a great Christmas Break.

Class 4 News
We have had a very busy and happy Christmas time in Class 4. The Christmas concert was absolutely brilliant, and the children shone on stage. They practised so well and performed with confidence, lovely singing and clear speaking. We are very proud of every single one of them.
This term we also learned about Christmas around the world. The children enjoyed discovering how different countries celebrate and how customs can be the same or completely different. They asked great questions and loved comparing their own traditions with those from other places.
We also had a wonderful trip to the pantomime, Aladdin. The children behaved beautifully throughout the whole visit and were a real credit to the school. They joined in with the songs, the jokes and the fun, and they thoroughly enjoyed the performance from start to finish. It was a lovely festive treat for everyone.
A big thank you to our fantastic PTA for all their hard work. The children loved the Christmas events, especially seeing Santa. We are also very grateful for the presents given to each class. Class 4 were very excited and the gifts were very much appreciated. Thank you for your kindness and support.
Christmas dinner was another highlight of the week. The children enjoyed their meal, the music and the chance to share a special lunchtime together. We ended the week with a fun Christmas quiz with Mrs Teague, Mrs Ashby and Mr Elacott. The children worked well in their teams, helped one another and had a lovely time.
We wish all families a warm, and happy Merry Christmas. Thank you for your support this term.

Dear Parents and Carers,
As the Christmas season approaches, our school is buzzing with excitement! The children have been working so hard and we can’t wait to share some magical moments with you over the coming weeks. Here’s what’s happening:
The children are thrilled about their upcoming performances, and we know you’ll love them too! Last Friday, I had the pleasure of watching their dress rehearsals—it was such a joy to see their enthusiasm. To give you a little preview, we’ve shared some photos on our school website.
Concert Clothing:
A huge thank you to our Governor and PTA members, Rebecca and Gemma, for making the school sparkle with festive decorations and lighting! We also appreciate everyone helping with chairs from the rugby club on Monday—your support ensures everyone will be comfortable during the concerts.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve been busy giving our foundation classrooms a fresh new look. Class 2 has been beautifully painted and is now being transformed with new resources. Class 1 will be completed before Christmas, including a fantastic new block play area.
Outdoors, things are changing too! Our KS2 den-building structure is ready for action, and next week our infant yard will begin to take shape with new fencing, a water play area, and an outdoor music zone. A big thank you to the Sawmills for helping us create these wonderful spaces for our pupils.
Mark your calendars for December 18th—Santa is coming to Creunant Primary! Children will enjoy a festive party dinner prepared by our amazing cooks, Louisa and Kylie. If your child prefers a packed lunch, please send it on a paper plate for the party. There will be fun, games, and a special gift from Santa for every child. We’ll also capture the magic with a photo of each child with Santa, which will be shared on our website. Nursery pupils will enjoy a special meeting with Santa and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate with him in their very own party in the Bee Hive during the morning. A big thank you to our Family Engagement Officer Ceri for organising this day for everyone.
All after-school clubs have now finished for the year. We’ll share a brand-new list of clubs for you to sign up to before the end of term—so keep an eye out for that!
One final thank you to every parent and carer who ensures that your children come to school every day to make the most of their learning. We are currently second in the Local Authority with 96.49% and missed the top school by just 0.01%—what an incredible achievement! This success is down to the support that every one of you gives us, and your commitment to attendance is truly appreciated by everyone. Let’s make December a great month too!
Don’t forget that Breakfast Club is open for all pupils between 8:10 and 8:30. It’s becoming very popular and offers a healthy breakfast with fruit, cereals, and toast, plus lots of fun activities like games, drawing, and magnetic blocks. Why not give it a try?
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm—it truly makes this season special for our school community. We look forward to celebrating with you and creating wonderful memories together. Wishing you all a joyful and festive week ahead!
Warm regards,
Creunant Primary School Team
Class 1
In Class 1 we have been listening to the story of ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson.
We have been creating rooms for ‘Stick Man’ using our new wooden blocks in our Block Play Area. We created a ‘double bed’ for Stick Man to sleep in and made it more comfortable with leaves. We added a ‘sofa’ using cuboids and a ‘counter’. We used cylinders either side of the bed as ‘lights’. Some of us created a tall chimney by stacking the blocks for Santa to return ‘Stick Man’ back to the family tree.
In the Reading Area we practised putting the story in order using the illustrations from the story and retelling the story in order.
In the Writing Area we wanted to make birthday cards and Christmas cards. We learned how to fold a piece of card in half. We looked at how cards open and close just like a book. We created our own designs for the front of the card and learned how to write on the card with ‘To’ and ‘From’. We practised writing our names.
In the Painting Area we created our own winter scenes using wintry photographs for inspiration – we mixed different shades of blue. We also practised a new technique of using a piece of cardboard as a squeegee to drag brown paint down the paper to create our own ‘Stick Man’. We used the edges of the card dipped in paint to add stick arms and legs.
In the Bee Hive we looked at images by Andy Goldsworthy who uses natural materials to create his own artwork. We used a range of natural materials such as pinecones, acorns, sticks, pebbles, wood and shells to create our own transient artwork which we then photographed.
Outdoors we took Stick Man on another adventure. We used language such as around, under, through, into, next to etc. We cycled on the bikes and found different ways of travelling to get ‘Stick Man’ back to his family tree. ‘Stick Man’ went into a dungeon, floated down the river into the sea, he dried off in a trampoline park bouncing on the trampoline, he crunched through the leaves and went in and out of the trees. Back in class we started to create our own story maps with a beginning, middle and end.
We have been practicing singing songs for our Christmas Carol Concert as well as learning some poems. We are looking forward to performing for you.
Class 2
WOW! what a busy 2 weeks we have had in class 2. We temporarily moved, rooms across the corridor, as our classroom has been painted from top to bottom and it is looking very fresh in there now. On Monday we will be back in our freshly painted classroom
Read Write Inc
We are all working really hard in our groups to continue to learn the speed sounds and to blend them together to help us read confidently. We have been spelling the words using our Fred fingers. We have continued to blend and read larger speedy green words and completed lots of written activities linked to the story book.
Please remember to bring your reading books back to school every Monday so they can be changed and given back out on Thursday.
Numeracy
In our numeracy sessions, year 1 pupils have been learning to match numbers and words from 0-10. We practised reading the number words and matching them to numeral cards. In year 2 we have been learning to use a whole part model to represent tens and ones from numbers 1-100. We have been practising counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s before we line up for dinner.
Welsh
We are really enjoying completing our Welsh Weather chart every morning. Most of us are showing a great understanding on how to ask and answer the 4 daily questions.
Expressive Arts
We have started making our Christmas crafts, decorations and cards. This week we made a gingerbread man, we’ve started to make a light up table centre piece and painted wooden tree decorations.
We have been working really hard to learn our poems and songs ready for the Christmas concert and we can’t wait to show you next week! Please can the pupils wear Christmas jumpers for the concerts.
A few reminders for next week:
Tuesday – 10am Christmas concert
Thursday – 10am Christmas concert
Friday – Christmas dinner day
Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Williams, Ms Morgan and Mrs Amos.
Class 3 – Mrs Donna Davies
Well, these last few weeks have really helped the children grow in confidence, with all our performing in front of various audiences.
We all went to the Community Centre with Class 4 to sing for the Parkinson’s Group. We sang a variety of Christmas songs and the children in Class 4 spoke confidently. What a lovely experience. We also met Santa, and he gave us all a chocolate treat.
We all enjoyed performing our trumpet and trombone melodies in front of Class 4. We have worked really hard with Mr Jones this term.
We have started writing our thank you letters to Sioned Williams, from the Senedd, for joining us in our park presentation and supporting our park project. We have all practised our IT skills, ‘renaming’ our work on j2office and then printing, some with a little support.
In Language & Literacy we have continued exploring kenning poems. We have started on our Christmas kennings with our friends in other RWI groups, to share our new skills. In handwriting we have practised the sounds e, f, b, writing words like elf and beef.
In Maths we have continued with our times tables, reciting different tables, answering questions for multiplication and division. We have also continued with addition and subtraction, using our knowledge and skills to solve word problems.
In music, some groups have volunteered to play Jingle Bells on the glockenspiels, others have been learning to play the drums and maracas. They have been practising together and look forward to sharing this with you all in the concert. Also, groups have volunteered to learn the dance moves in school and at home too. Again, we shall be performing these in our concert.
We have made props for our Christmas concert, like lanterns, fans and signs.
Thank you for all your support with your child’s homework. Have a great weekend!
Mrs Davies.

What We’ve Been Up To
It has been a very busy and exciting time in class!
Here’s an update on what we’ve been learning and experiencing: Christmas Concert Practice We have been rehearsing for our Christmas performance, and the pupils are full of festive cheer! They are learning songs and practising their speaking parts with confidence and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to share this special event with you.
Call of the Wild Adventure our week long outdoor experience was a huge success!
Pupils took part in a range of activities that challenged them physically and mentally. They demonstrated resilience, problem-solving, and teamwork, supporting each other throughout. A big thank you to the instructors who made the experience safe, fun, and memorable. These activities have helped pupils build confidence and develop important life skills.
Community Singing
We visited the local Community Centre to sing for the Parkinson’s group. This was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to give back to the community and share the Christmas spirit.
In the Classroom
Pupils have been working on spreadsheets to track weather patterns. This activity has helped them develop data-handling skills, learn how to organise information effectively, and interpret real-world data.
Digital Skills: Using Adobe Express, pupils have created striking infographics about tornadoes. This project combined research, creativity, and technology skills. Pupils learned how to present information visually and make their work engaging and informative.
Thank you for your continued support.
