A big thank you to everyone who signed up for our after-school clubs!
We’re so excited to get started—all clubs will begin this week.

At the end of the school day, children will be taken straight to their club. If your child won’t be attending on a particular evening, please let us know as soon as possible. It really helps us make sure everyone is safe and accounted for during dismissal.

Pick-up time is 4:20pm from the main school door, and we kindly ask that an adult collects your child. Due to the darker nights during the autumn term, we do not permit children to walk home alone from these clubs. 

For those joining Cookery and Craft Club, we have something extra special! Due to our Family Engagement funding,  a parent or carer will need to join their child at the club. This could be a mum, dad, gran, grandpa, auntie, uncle—anyone from your wider family is welcome! We’d be absolutely delighted to see older generations come along and share these lovely moments together.

School Update Monday August 25th 2025

Dear Parent/Carer, 

As the start of term fast approaches, I’d like to share a few updates.
We’re so excited to welcome everyone back for a brand-new academic year! The school feels brighter already knowing the children will be returning on Tuesday, September 2nd — we can’t wait to hear their cheerful voices filling the classrooms and corridors once again.

Open Evening – Monday 15th September

We’re delighted to invite you to our Open Evening on Monday 15th September, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.
This will be a great opportunity to:

• Visit the school
• Meet teachers and governors
• Ask any questions you may have

The school hall will also host a range of external agencies who may be able to offer support.
We hope you’ll join us for a cup of tea or coffee ☕ and a chance to learn more about what’s happening in school.
More details will follow closer to the date.

Attendance Matters

Thank you for your support in improving attendance last year!
We ended the year with a final attendance rate of 93.09% — a fantastic improvement!
But we know we can do even better.

We kindly ask for your continued support in ensuring your child attends school regularly and on time.
One area we’re still working on is children leaving early on Fridays.
Please note: while we ask you to complete a form for holiday absences, these are still recorded as unauthorised.

Our new Family Engagement Officer, Ceri, will be following up on most absences with a welfare call to see how we can help.

 Year 4–6 Walking Home Permissions

Thank you to all parents of pupils in Years 4 to 6 who have already completed the walking home permission forms on Schoop.
These lists will be shared with staff on September 1st, so please ensure the form has been completed if you haven’t already done so.

Any child without permission will remain in the yard with their teacher until collected by an adult.
Please kindly come into the yard to collect your child rather than wait outside on the pavement — this helps us ensure pupils are dismissed safely.

Reminders

School Times:

• Breakfast Club: 8:10am–8:30am (open to all pupils, including Nursery)
• Arrival: 8:40am–8:50am (gates locked at 8:50am)
• Full-time pupils finish at 3:20pm
• Nursery pupils finish at 11:30am (morning session only)

Lunch:

• School dinners are free for all pupils
• Only send a lunch bag if your child is having sandwiches
• Please avoid using lunch bags for snacks — this can confuse younger children
• Daily menus are available on the school website

Snacks:

• Children may bring a healthy snack each day
• We are a nut-free school
• Snacks should be in a named bag or pot and placed in the class tray

Water Bottles:

• Please send your child with a refillable water bottle each day

School Bags:

• To help with space, please avoid large bags
• Only children with lunch boxes should bring a bag — everything else is provided

Pencil Cases:

• Children have all the resources they need in school
• Please keep pencil cases at home for homework and personal use

PE:

• PE days will be shared when we return
• Please ensure your child wears trainers, shorts/leggings/joggers, and a blue PE T-shirt or polo shirt on their PE day

We understand that the return to school can be a costly time, especially for larger families. 
By continuing to provide essential items in school, we hope to reduce some of that pressure.
Please remember to label all belongings so we can return lost items quickly.

We’re really looking forward to supporting your child’s learning and development this term.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to me or your child’s class teacher — we’ll be available at the school gates throughout the week. 

I’ll also be setting up a form on Schoop for you to ask questions or share any essential information prior to your child’s return.
This form will be monitored daily this week, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Nursery News

We’ve had such a fun time splashing and soaking each other in our water activities day! We played lots of games and enjoyed shooting water at each other with our water guns.

We have read some more books on Journeys. We read ‘Rosie’s Walk’ and used words such as ‘past’, ‘through’, ‘under’ and ‘over’. We joined in with the story and did the actions while moving like a hen.

After reading ‘Whatever Next’ we used recycling to create our own rockets like Baby Bear did. We used lots and lots of Sellotape to stick the boxes and plastic together!!!

This week we also read ‘The Scarecrow’s Wedding’. We made our own split pin scarecrows, played with the puppets and the masks and sang ‘Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’.

Reception & Year 1 End-of-Year News

Dear Parents and Carers, 

As we reach the end of a wonderful school year, I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you. It has been an absolute joy to teach your children—they’ve grown so much, worked incredibly hard, and made us all proud! 

I hope you all enjoy a restful and fun-filled summer break. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to in our final weeks: 

  Literacy 

We’ve completed our final phonics assessments, and your child will be bringing home their results. This will help you see which sounds to focus on over the holidays. The progress they’ve made is truly fantastic—well done, everyone! 

 Numeracy 

The last two weeks, we’ve been revisiting place value to strengthen our understanding of how numbers work. The children have shown great confidence in recognising and writing numbers accurately. 

 Topic: Journeys 

Our concept this term has been Journeys. As we wrap up our own journey in Class 1, the children have been reflecting on their favourite memories and setting goals for what they’d like to achieve in Class 2. It’s been a lovely way to celebrate their growth. 

 Reading & Library Books 

Please return any school reading or library books by Friday so we can get everything ready for the new school year.

Class 2 News

Class 2 have had a busy and productive fortnight!

We’ve been sharpening our times tables skills through oral practice and using TT Blast, helping us build speed and confidence. In maths, we’ve explored how different symbols affect the meaning of sums, deepening our understanding of operations.

In our environmental studies, we created informative posters to raise awareness about the impact of single-use and multi-use plastics on beaches and marine life. The creativity and thoughtfulness in these designs were impressive!

During P.E., we’ve been developing our coordination by practising throwing and catching skills—lots of fun and great teamwork all around!

Class 3 News

This last fortnight we have enjoyed playing games with our friends, like Pool, Table Tennis, Chess, Cards, Checkers, Skull Island, Happy Feet and Guess Who.  

Our favourite thing was Ninja Warriors and going on the bouncy castle, obstacle courses and high ramps, as well as having pizza and chips together.

We really enjoyed going to the Multisport Festival in Llangatwg and playing dodgeball, sitting-down volleyball, walking football, chicken, hero, partner in crime, athletics, Seaweed, Kings & Queens and Medics.

We loved watching our Year 6 leavers assembly and wish them all the very best.

We would like to thank our PTA for putting on such an excellent fête. We loved the face-painting, tattoos, toy stalls, candy floss, rock painting, bouncy castle, slushies, cake stall, surprise box, popcorn, hook-a-duck, axe throwing, swords, balloons and tin throwing game.

In Welsh we have enjoyed our Drilio games and getting our names on the leaderboard.

Class 4 News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In our last class newsletter of the year, we focus on our Year 6 leavers. We are thrilled that our recent leavers assembly, was a resounding success! We were incredibly proud of their performances, as the pupils showcased their talents with wonderful displays of hard work and dedication. To see so many emotional parents and pupils showed how much it meant to them. 

A huge thank you to Year 6 for their enthusiasm and spirit throughout this process. Your commitment made the assembly a memorable occasion for everyone involved. I would also like to thank all the staff who supported the concert, especially Mrs Marston Jones and Mrs Williams for their invaluable help with the music and dance moves.

Additionally, the pupils had a fantastic time during the water fight today, enjoying every moment of fun! They especially loved soaking the teachers!

I would also like to extend a big thank you for the thoughtful gifts. I have truly enjoyed teaching Class 4 this year. They deserve a good break, and I look forward to the next academic year with excitement.

As we close on another academic year, we wish Year 6 all the best in their future endeavours. We have no doubt that they will continue to shine brightly in whatever they pursue.

To Year 5, we are excited to see you grow and become leaders in our school in the coming year!

P.S. Our last walk to school will leave from the rugby club tomorrow morning. Please can pupils arrive for 8:30 so we have plenty of time for photos before they take their final walk to Creunant Primary School.
