School News Friday September 12th

A Warm Welcome Back
We’re delighted to welcome everyone back to school after the summer break. It’s been a busy start to the term, but it’s truly wonderful to see the school full of energy once again. A special welcome to all the new pupils and families who have joined our school community this year — we’re so pleased to have you with us.
Over the summer, we trialled a Schoop form for queries while the school was closed. This form is now closed, but please remember that you can still use the usual contact form on Schoop to get in touch with your child’s class teacher or to ask any questions.
Welcoming Our New Family Engagement Officer
This week, we’re thrilled to welcome Ceri-Marie Jones, our new Family Engagement Officer, to the team. Ceri brings a wealth of experience in supporting families and will be working to create exciting opportunities for parents and carers to engage with their children through in-school sessions and after school clubs.
We’re also inviting parents to meet with Ceri to share ideas on how we can further develop our community here in Crynant. If you have a little time to spare, please join us for a coffee and a chat on Thursday morning — your ideas could help make a real difference. Ceri will be available in our open evening on Monday if you have any further questions.

Open Evening – Monday, September 15th
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our Open Evening on Monday from 3:20 to 5:00pm. This is a great opportunity to:

Breakfast Club Success
Thank you to all families for your efforts in getting children to school on time each day. It’s been fantastic to see so many pupils enjoying Breakfast Club — a great way to start the day with friends and a healthy meal.
Nursery children are now welcome to join too! Breakfast Club runs from 8:10 to 8:30am.
Feelgood Fridays
Last year’s Wellbeing Wednesdays have evolved into Feelgood Fridays! Every other Friday, we celebrate pupil achievements, and on alternating Fridays, we focus on friendship and wellbeing.
Pupils are randomly selected to nominate a friend who has shown kindness or support that week. Take a look at this week’s nominations — it’s heartwarming to see the thoughtful things our pupils say about one another.

After School Clubs
Our after school clubs have had a fantastic start, with around 45 children attending each evening. It’s been lovely to see so many pupils having fun and trying new activities.
PE Days Reminder
Please ensure your child comes dressed appropriately for PE on the following days:
- Monday – Class 1
- Tuesday – Class 2
- Thursday – Class 3
- Friday – Class 4
Stay Updated
Keep an eye on the school website for upcoming dates and events. We have an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to share it with you.
Finally, if you are out and about this weekend, please could you collect things for our mud kitchen. We are looking for things such as conkers, acorns, small sticks, bark, shells etc.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Class News (8th September 2025)
Class 1 News
Welcome back to the start of a brand new year!
It’s been lovely getting to meet our new class and everyone is settling in so well.
This week the children have been meeting the adults that help them in class – Mrs Thomas the class teacher, Mrs Williams the HLTA and Miss Jones the TA. They also got to meet Miss Lavery a class teacher who will be in class every Wednesday morning. She is an expert in Spanish and along with supporting our Read, Write, Inc session and maths session will also be teaching us some new Spanish songs.
Pupils have been getting used to the areas in the ‘Reception’ classroom this week. They have been learning about where for example construction toys are located – how to get them out, take turns, share and tidy up into the correct boxes when they have finished.
They have been writing about their holiday news and talking about what they did over the Summer. They have been getting to know one another and asking ‘Pwy wyt ti?’ (Who are you?) and answering ‘Mrs Thomas’ ydw i. They have been learning a new morning song ‘Bore da’, dinner song ‘Amser Cinio’ a going home song ‘Hwyl Fawr Frindiau’ and getting used to the new routines. They have listened well to stories. This week we have read ‘Smiley Shark’, ‘Sharing a Shell’ and ‘Rainbow Rob’. We have talked about where to find the front cover, the back cover and introduced them to a new word ‘spine’ for the spine of the book.
They have created their own self portraits which are beginning to be displayed on our ‘Croeso’ display.
Our new concept this term will be movement – so far the children have told us about how they move their bodies, how some of the 3d shapes in our classroom can roll, how they can move in a car or on an aeroplane – they have enjoyed pretending to be fire fighters so we will be setting up our role play area to include a ‘fire station’.
Next week we will begin Read, Write, Inc sessions and in maths we will be starting to match objects and look for patterns.

After School Clubs Reminder (8/9/25)
A big thank you to everyone who signed up for our after-school clubs!
We’re so excited to get started—all clubs will begin this week.
At the end of the school day, children will be taken straight to their club. If your child won’t be attending on a particular evening, please let us know as soon as possible. It really helps us make sure everyone is safe and accounted for during dismissal.
Pick-up time is 4:20pm from the main school door, and we kindly ask that an adult collects your child. Due to the darker nights during the autumn term, we do not permit children to walk home alone from these clubs.
For those joining Cookery and Craft Club, we have something extra special! Due to our Family Engagement funding, a parent or carer will need to join their child at the club. This could be a mum, dad, gran, grandpa, auntie, uncle—anyone from your wider family is welcome! We’d be absolutely delighted to see older generations come along and share these lovely moments together.

Return to School Update (August 25th 2025)

School Update Monday August 25th 2025
Dear Parent/Carer,
As the start of term fast approaches, I’d like to share a few updates.
We’re so excited to welcome everyone back for a brand-new academic year! The school feels brighter already knowing the children will be returning on Tuesday, September 2nd — we can’t wait to hear their cheerful voices filling the classrooms and corridors once again.
A Busy and Exciting Year Ahead
We have lots planned for both pupils and families this year!
Throughout the term, we’ll keep you updated with key dates and events via our school website and Schoop. Please remember that it can be really helpful to link the school website to your phone calendar so that you never miss an event.
If you change your phone, please remember to update the Schoop app to continue receiving all the latest news and information.
Open Evening – Monday 15th September
We’re delighted to invite you to our Open Evening on Monday 15th September, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.
This will be a great opportunity to:
- Visit the school
- Meet teachers and governors
- Ask any questions you may have
The school hall will also host a range of external agencies who may be able to offer support.
We hope you’ll join us for a cup of tea or coffee ☕ and a chance to learn more about what’s happening in school.
More details will follow closer to the date.
Attendance Matters
Thank you for your support in improving attendance last year!
We ended the year with a final attendance rate of 93.09% — a fantastic improvement!
But we know we can do even better.
We kindly ask for your continued support in ensuring your child attends school regularly and on time.
One area we’re still working on is children leaving early on Fridays.
Please note: while we ask you to complete a form for holiday absences, these are still recorded as unauthorised.
Our new Family Engagement Officer, Ceri, will be following up on most absences with a welfare call to see how we can help.
Year 4–6 Walking Home Permissions
Thank you to all parents of pupils in Years 4 to 6 who have already completed the walking home permission forms on Schoop.
These lists will be shared with staff on September 1st, so please ensure the form has been completed if you haven’t already done so.
Any child without permission will remain in the yard with their teacher until collected by an adult.
Please kindly come into the yard to collect your child rather than wait outside on the pavement — this helps us ensure pupils are dismissed safely.

We understand that the return to school can be a costly time, especially for larger families.
By continuing to provide essential items in school, we hope to reduce some of that pressure.
Please remember to label all belongings so we can return lost items quickly.
We’re really looking forward to supporting your child’s learning and development this term.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to me or your child’s class teacher — we’ll be available at the school gates throughout the week.
I’ll also be setting up a form on Schoop for you to ask questions or share any essential information prior to your child’s return.
This form will be monitored daily this week, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs. M. Teague
