Understanding Hwb

HWB

What is HWB?

HWB is an online platform which hots a collection of digital tools and resources to support learning in Wales.  It allows learners to access online resources anywhere, at any time, from a range of devices.

How Can My Child Access HWB?

Every learner in Wales has been provided with a HWB username and password which is unique to them.  The username will take the form of their surname followed by their initial and possibly a number followed by @hwbcymru.net (e.g.  WilliamsJ520@hwbcymru.net).  If you need a further copy of your child’s HWB username and password, please contact your child’s teacher.

Consent Forms were recently sent out to all pupils regarding parental consent to continue using HWB.  Since the GDPR data regulations have come into force, schools now need explicit consent from parents for their children to continue using HWB.

What Can My Child Use HWB To Do?

HWB has a range of digital tools suitable for children aged 3 onwards.

Younger children are encouraged to use J2E (Just2easy) which has tools to support everything from drawing to word processing to coding.

Foundation Phase pupils will be encouraged to use JIT5 (part of J2E) where they can use:

“Write” and “Paint” to type and draw pictures

“Turtle” provides children with an introduction to basic programming

“Chart” and “Pictogram” provides tools to create different graphs to support your child’s numeracy skills.

Key Stage 2 pupils will be introduced to Office 365.

HWB provides pupils with free access to Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Children are also provided with a free Outlook email account where they will be taught the basics of emailing safely.

Can Parents Have Access To HWB?

HWB does not offer individual parental logins.  However, a number of areas are available without logging in, including the Online safety zone.

If you are curious to find out more about HWB, ask your child to show you what they have been doing in school!
